Creating Space for Inspiration

43 Flares 43 Flares ×

When you work from home, it’s up to you to create an inspiring office space.  Here’s a glimpse into where I work from when I’m not sitting on the cozy couch with my MacBook.

My office is currently in a corner of the living room.  I’ve had it in it’s own room but found it’s just easier for now to keep it in the shared space where I can keep an eye on my kids.  It’s the command and control center for our homeschooling as well so easy access is important.

I’ve got an L shaped desk and comfy chair.  My desk is not usually this uncluttered. It’s usually got an assortment of my books, notebooks, and kid books on it, depending on the time of day.

The walls are decorated with Amy Brown faerie art because it inspires me.  And some coffee wall decor, of course.  On the bookshelf you can only partially see I’ve got candles and incense.  I also have three small rocks that say “Brilliance,” “Abundance,” and “Achieve” on my desk.

There’s a small lego version of the Enterprise my son made me, and a “Love” magnet from my other son.  Flowers from my daughter.  Things that remind me why I work from home.

I’ve got the basics, too – calendar, pen holder, sticky note holder, and a speaker dock for my ipod (not showing in the photo, but lately it’s been playing mostly Michael Bublé and occasionally P!nk and Avril depending on my mood).  Hiding under my desk are my printer, books I’m reading, and some miscellaneous binders and planners.

The drink you see is a vanilla mocha.  I know you were wondering.  ;)

So what’s your office space like?  What types of things do you keep around to inspire you?

I’ll put a picture up when the new office is ready but right now we are switching rooms. My daughter is going into the current office because it is a bigger room and she has a baby coming. We’ll be moving into a smaller office space but I have a new armoire desk that will help save space – I hope!

I don’t have an “office” space – I work/write in our sunroom – it doubles as our dining room in the spring/summer/fall. But the view is great!

I’ve my laptop on one end of the table, and my book shelves behind me. (we have bookshelves in EVERY room) I face outwards. The outdoor cats are usually lazing on the deck, and our old, lovely dog usually sleeps on a mat in front of door.

Here’s a picture taken from the perspective from behind my laptop… if you’re interested: http://encourageyourspouse.com/fill-the-well/rainy-morning-lit-candles-003/

Thanks for posting the picture of your office space – it’s neat to “see” where the inspirations are coming from!

My desk looks a little bit like this. It is also an L-shaped desk. Only I don’t have such a nice desktop. Right now it’s some of the girls floormats because my hubby hasn’t built it yet. My desk has also moved into the living room because the girls stopped playing in their playroom because I was in there. I also have the inspiring art but I also have a box of rocks on my desk incase I need to create something to release stress. Thanks for sharing your desk.

One section of my wall is dedicated to my kids’ drawings. The drawings always remind me that my life extends beyond the screen I stare at all day!

Hey, you changed your header! Cool. :)

I must say, you put me to shame. Must be the guy in me. I take my laptop to do all of my dirty work. So sometimes I am working from the couch, the patio, gazebo, poolside, or in the car driving. Scratch that last one :/. lol

My inspiration can come from all sorts of places. Conversations that day, thing I have read online, an all sorts of other places. I write a couple key-words on a word-document and it will remind me of the subject when I have time to write.

I could totally go for a vanilla mocha right now >.<
