The easiest and quickest blog posts for me to write are generally my weekend posts because I’ve got a theme for each day.
On Saturdays, I post something fun. It might be an infographic, a cartoon, or just something interesting I’ve stumbled across during the week.
On Sundays, I post something inspirational or motivational. Usually it’s a video. It might be a quote or a poem.
Having a theme means I’m not starting with a blank “page” in front of me. It also means I can easily write up several posts in advance for those days because I already know what I’ll be blogging about.
So what themes might work for your blog?
Here are some I’ve used before, or seen around the internet:
- Wordless Wednesday
- Cool Tool Tuesday
- Tech Tip Thursday
- Thankful Thursday
- Fun Friday
There are other (non-alliterated) options:
- a weekly wrap up post
- one day a week where you share links you’ve come across that week that you loved
- for product sellers, share a new product photo one day a week
- for family/mom/home blogs, share menu plan monday or something similar
- for a business blog, you could do a “where we’ve been” feature weekly with links or photos of where you’ve been spotted online
Lots of options.
What weekly or daily themes have you used for your blogs or seen used around the web? Please share in the comments!

Have been thinking about trying to get some sort of structure to how I do things….not sure about real set themes but just broadbased….one day for something to do with the garden….one day for something family based….one day for pure information….this month will give me the time to think about this and how I’m going to go about it

That’s a good plan, Katrina. Broad themes give you lots of flexibility, but still a starting point to make it easier. :)

Hi Michelle,
Fantastic, informative post, Michelle. As I read I had an Aha! moment. I send out a Tuesday Tip to my email list community. Instead of gathering separate material for that, what I’ll do as of this week is to make that my Tuesday post and then send the link to my list.
Thanks for the reminder of the value of repurposing content.

Smart! Extra blog post ready to go of helpful info–sounds like a win to me. :)

I like the idea of quick and simple fun stuff on Saturdays. We’re always running around on Saturdays and this would make it easy!
I’ll have to look around during the week for my fun and simple Saturday post.
Thanks!

That’s one of the reasons I started it. I wanted to post something but it’s often a time crunch on Saturdays here. Short and fun posts took the pressure off and also gave me a day to just have fun and give readers something to smile at.

I’ve set up weekly themes, but for the Ultimate Blog Challenge, I’ve just been posting whatever I’ve felt inspired to post. I’ll do the themes/memes again later :).
Mine are:
Monday Message (inspirational)
Tuesday Tip (related to a main topic on my blog like blogging, marketing, etc.)
WAHM Wednesday (a feature, interview, etc. of another WAHM or questions from readers)
Theology Thursday (a business and the Bible post)
Fun Friday (something fun . . . obviously)
Social Media Saturday (news, tips etc.)
Sunday Suggestions (blogs, resources, articles, etc. that I recommend)
It does make things easier. It’s also good for your regular readers who might look forward to a particular theme.

These are great Michelle! Having a structure and a plan helps to get traction with any project. After two challenges, I’m far more organized and much more efficient in blogging. I notice I’m often stumped for a post, but when I relax…ideas flow. The biggest benefit of blogging is letting go of any judgements of my readers. I know I don’t appeal to everyone and that is A okay! :) Thanks!! (Enjoyed Leanne’s ideas, too)

This is a great idea. I have thought about it in the past, but never implemented it. When I blogged before, I always participated in Thankful Thursday. Maybe I need to get into that again. :) I also would like to do a series, but I need to work on a few other ideas I have floating around my head.

Every Wednesday, I have a “New Work Wednesday” where I post my newest painting.
On Fridays, I have my “Friday Favorite,” featuring an artist I find super-inspiring!
Thanks, Michelle!

Hi Michelle,
I haven’t started a weekly , daily or even monthly theme yet like top commenter. I may do something like this in the future though. Thanks for the idea. :)

Great post there Michelle, and something I was kind of working towards…but hadn’t completely formulated that in my mind! I’m all for NOT starting out with the dreaded blank sheet effect!!
Out of interest, how do you then repurpose your blog content for your e-zine – do you just give a list of links to the last 7 posts with a whole extra new content piece for the main article, or do you pull one post out to be your ezine article?
cheers :-)

What a great read. Lately I’ve found myself obsessing about blog posts and trying to get worthwhile content out there every day. It came to the point where other plans that I had were suffering. So, after much deliberation (with myself), I’ve decided to just post on Tues, Thurs & Sat and devote my “free” days to my other projects until they are well under way.
Thanks for the inspiration!

I love the idea of a weekly feature, it’s the only way I can blog 5x a week. I recently started Food Fridays, where I encourage everyone to participate and link in their food related post and I also participate in a travel photo feature on Thursdays, which makes for 2 lighter days of blogging on less traffic heavy days.

Excellent ideas, really like them. I’ve also seen people tweeting a quote or so every day and then doing a blog post called “best quotes of the week” every week. I try to do a how-to post every other day and alternating with an inspirational/life-related post.
